Make a Chart from Website Data and put in PowerPt

  1. Locate some data in a table on the Internet. Examples:
    · www.cde.ca.gov;
  2. Click and drag the mouse over all of the information you want to use.
  3. Edit, Copy (or right-click, Copy or Ctrl C) to copy the information.
  4. Open a new document in MS Excel. (Programs, Microsoft Office, Excel)
  5. Click on ONE cell on the spreadsheet, where you want the data to be pasted.
  6. Go to Edit and Paste (or Rt-click Paste, or Ctrl-V). All of the information should appear on the sheet. If you can’t see anything, make sure the text is black, not white.
  7. Manipulate the information by cutting and pasting cells so the information you want is all together, without rows or columns in between.
  8. Highlight the data you want to make into a chart. Be sure to include the column and row titles.
  9. Go to Insert, Chart.
  10. Choose the type of chart you want, depending on the type of data you have and click Next.
  11. Decide if it makes more sense with the “series” in “rows” or “columns”. Just click on both and use the one that makes most sense. Next.
  12. Give the chart a title and label the axes if you wish. Next.
  13. Click “As a new sheet” if you want the chart to be generated on another worksheet page. If you leave it as “As an object In” your chart will be left on the existing Excel sheet. Click Finish.
  14. Resize the chart by clicking and dragging on the corner handles.
  15. Place the chart in a desired location by putting your mouse over a blank part of the chart.
  16. Click to get the 4 handled arrow and drag the mouse to wherever you want the chart.
  17. Save your spreadsheet: File, Save; or Save As to change its location on the harddrive.
